WHICH SITE DO WE PLAY ON?

From our experience, Lichess.com provides the best learning experience. It's completely free, and easy to set up. To find your coach, click the magnifying glass on the upper task bar on the right hand side, and enter your coach's username. You'll be directed to their profile, where you'll see a thumbs up. Press that, and now you're friends. Click the link below to create your account.

HOW DO I PAY MY COACH?

All sessions can be booked here on our website! Simply find the Book Now heading, and select a date and time; from there, it's the same as buying anything else online. This system helps keep our team organized - we have coaches all around the world, allow us to deal with the technical complications!

WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT FROM A PRIVATE SESSION?

I'm committed to igniting your passion for the game, and displaying your style on the board. For a complete walk through of the basics covered within every lesson plan, visit the Lessons page.

HOW DO I READ CHESS NOTATIONS?

Chess speaks in a language of it's own. Here's a quick guide:

King: K

Queen: Q

Bishop: B

Knight: N

Pawn: wherever it is on the board, eg. e5

Each square corresponds to a letter and a number, from a-h and 1-8, in that order. To note a piece's position, write the piece letter, then it's square. For example, a Knight on d4 would be written as Nd4.

Check: +

Checkmate: #

Capture: x, eg. a Knight capturing a Rook on c4 would be NxRc4

Kingside Castle: 0-0

Queenside Castle: 0-0-0

Lastly, there are symbols meant to represent the quality of a given move. These come at the very end of the move's notation.

…: Black’s move

!: Good move

!!: Excellent move

?: Bad move

??: Terrible move (blunder)

!?: Interesting move

?!: Dubious move

Congratulations! Now you can read chess notations. Did we miss your question? Let us know!
